What Is Glutathione?

Glutathione is a small tripeptide molecule that’s made up of three amino acids: glutamate (aka glutamic acid), cysteine and glycine. Pesquisadores da Universidade Estadual de Oregon (sigla em inglês, OSU) descobriram que um composto desintoxicante específico, a glutationa, ajuda a resistir aos estresses tóxicos da vida cotidiana – mas seus níveis diminuem com a idade e isso favorece uma ampla gama de problemas de saúde relacionados ao envelhecimento.

Um novo estudo, publicado na revista Redox Biology, também destacou o composto N-acetil-cisteína, ou NAC, já usado em altas doses em emergências de desintoxicação médica. Os pesquisadores relataram que a NAC, em níveis muito mais baixos, pode ajudar a manter os níveis de glutationa e prevenir os declínios metabólicos associados com o envelhecimento.
